I think whenever you talk about traditional grip, it's important to understand that is NOT only about the left hand, but the contrast of different grips on both hands. For me that is something really special that has become part of my style. I would never call it a weakness but a strength!

I have a Master's in Composition (and I'm a drummer) and this is one of the best ways to "see" the mechanics of polyrhythms. Usually in music (or in any area of study, really) there are different ways to approach and process the technical aspects. This is the way I learned.

This is WAY easier to count as 7 groups of six. For the other part of polyrhythm you just accent so you are one beat late from the previous bar.

I wish I could do that! Room for a bed a dresser and the drum set. Unfortunately I had a full size bed. Fortunately my rooms were a little bigger than that. Even so, it was hard for the dog to turn around twice before he laid down. 😆
